RARE EARTH INTERACTIVE DESIGN, INC. TEAMS UP WITH CANADIAN GROUP TO CREATE UNIQUE INTERACTIVE SOLUTION FOR
NHL's BUFFALO SABRES
BUFFALO, NEW YORK (Thursday, October 25TH, 2001) - Fans of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres who just can't get enough of their favorite team now have the chance to do just that thanks to a Jumbotron scoreboard desktop application that they can add to their WindowsTM personal computer screens.
Increasing the flow of information from the Sabres to their fans - from player statistics to reviews of league standings and upcoming schedules - has now been made easier through the creation of a unique interactive computer desktop portal created by Rare Earth Interactive Design, Inc., a leading and growing eBusiness Solutions firm headquartered in Buffalo.
According to Rare Earth President Craig C. Chapman, the Interactive Media Portal (IMP) is a stand-alone desktop communications tool, which was developed with Rare Earth's joint venture partner, Appwares Development Group of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. The IMP was publicly unveiled today at the Sabres' offices in HSBC Arena.
Rare Earth Interactive Design, Inc. - founded in 1998 - is currently the only independent eBusiness Solutions firm in the United States to offer the Integrated Media Portal to its clients, and the Sabres are the first NHL team to employ this type of technology as a component of their marketing and promotions program, Chapman said.
The Sabres Integrated Media Portal can be downloaded from http://www.sabres.integratedmediaportal.com
In a nutshell, the Sabres Desktop Portal enables the team to directly communicate with its fans through its own custom-branded and dynamic interface. With the Sabres IMP placed on their desktop, any Sabres fan can now receive information about their team, review schedules, standings, game notifications and player statistics, independent of their web browser. Sabres' advertisers and corporate sponsors will also have the ability to communicate directly to Sabres fans through the Sabres IMP Jumbotron interface.
The IMP can be dynamically changed and updated to promote special events or to display new characters, such as the popular Sabretooth.
"This was a very exciting effort for Rare Earth and one that we are extremely proud to be part of," Chapman said. "The fun part of this Integrated Media Portal is the Jumbotron format that it's taken, which I think fans will really enjoy seeing and using."
Users of the Sabres IMP can sign up for a sabreshockey.com account directly from the IMP and receive notification in their Windows System Tray (WST) when mail is delivered to their account. In addition, users will also receive WST notification when there is breaking news or updates from the Sabres.
"Rare Earth's partnership with AppWares Development Group has been an excellent study in how two firms with complementary skill sets can combine those skills to create spectacular and innovative products. The fact that we were able to premier it with a marquee client like the Sabres, and enable them to achieve better communication with their fan base, is a testament to their vision as well," Rare Earth's Chapman said.
